Homemade Biscuits with Honey Butter

- two cups all purpose flour
- 1 tbs of baking powder
- 1 tsp of sugar
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 1 stick of butter
- ¾ cup of buttermilk, half and half, or yogurt (buttermilk or half and half for sweet or more standard biscuits, yogurt for more savory biscuits)
- 1 egg
- flour as needed
- Honey butter
- ¾ cup butter, room temperature
- ¼ cup honey
Preheat the oven to 450. Mix all dry ingredients together. Cut up your butter and mix it into your flour until it is mostly mixed, which should leave small balls of dough. Now you can add milk of choice and egg and mix it up. Add flour if needed, but try not to add any or much.
Pull out some wax paper onto the counter and sprinkle with flour and knead for about 30 seconds... Don't over knead it. If it is sticking, just sprinkle with a small amount of flour.
Now comes the fun part, because it gives you a chance to pull out the rolling pin! Smack your dough a couple of times with the pin, then roll it out until it is just more than ¼ an inch thick. Fold it in half and you are ready to cut it up. Using a cup, a biscuit cutter, or whatever and cut out biscuits. If you don't want to roll them, just spoon out the dough and make drop biscuits.
Grease a baking sheet and set the biscuits about ¼ inch or less apart. Bake for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Once they come out of the oven, you can brush on melted butter or honey butter so they are super pretty!
For honey butter, bring ¾ cup of butter to room temperature and place it in a bowl. With an electric mixer, mix the butter for a few seconds, then pour in the honey and mix until well mixed. Keep it in the fridge or serve room temperature. Yum!
